Paul Stewart has challenged Daniel Levy to allow Nuno Espirito Santo to spend big if Tottenham Hotspur sell Harry Kane before the transfer window closes.

Following a disappointing campaign which saw Spurs miss out on Champions League and Europa League qualification, Kane has made no secret of his desire to leave his boyhood club in a bid to challenge for more silverware.

Speculation grew that the England captain is trying to force through a move to Manchester City after failing to return for pre-season training at the start of last week.

Pep Guardiola, whose City side began their Premier League title defence with a loss at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, has confirmed a strong interest in prising Kane away from north London.

Spurs have prepared for the new season by bringing in Atalanta duo Pierluigi Gollini and Cristian Romero, along with Sevilla winger Bryan Gil.

While former Spurs and City man Stewart believes Levy is willing to sell Kane for the right place, he thinks the chairman will need to put his money where his mouth is if the switch is sealed.

Where was Kane's first loan spell?

Stewart exclusively told TIF: “Daniel Levy will be looking at the money coming into the pot.

“I think the first question fans will ask is whether any of the money will be spent on new players. We will then see how Daniel Levy is with that money.”
