Spurs fans took to Twitter to slam the performance of Steven Bergwijn in the 1-0 win against Watford on Sunday afternoon.

The Dutch winger has enjoyed a promising start to the new season but is still on a worrying run of form in front of goal, as he managed just one goal in 35 appearances last season.

Unfortunately, the 23-year-old struggled to have any real influence on the game against Watford, with substitute Lucas Moura arguably having more impact after replacing him in the second half.

How did Spurs fans react to Bergwijn’s performance?

“Bergwijn is our worst winger he should just play in the conference cup, that is his level, Moura and Bryan Gil are levels above.”

“Need to sell Bergwijn. He’s just not good enough.”

“Need some signings. Tanganga, Alli, Bergwijn and Moura are nowhere near good enough. We need a playmaker badly.”

“Poor match and poor football but we got the 3 points and clean sheet. Bergwijn shouldn’t be starting ahead of Moura. Dele needs to do so much more in the free role he is playing in. I would try Gil in that role.”

Was Bergwijn poor against Watford?

The former PSV man was selected on the left-hand side against the Hornets, with Heung-Min Son playing on the right, with the Dutchman offering very little in an attacking sense.

Bergwijn’s lack of goals and assists in a Spurs shirt will continue to concern fans and they will be hoping that he can find the back of the net sooner rather than later, as the £19.8m-rated winger looked low on confidence at times and very rarely looks to run at defenders.

Although Spurs were able to grind out the three points thanks to Son’s free-kick, they didn’t create too many clear cut chances, and it seems as if Nuno Espirito Santo might have to turn towards either Lucas Moura or Bryan Gil in future matches if he wants his side to be more dangerous going forward.
