Spurs fans have been slamming the first-half performance of Oliver Skipp in Sunday’s Premier League game against Watford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The young midfielder has started all three of Spurs’ Premier League fixtures this term after spending last season on loan with Norwich City, where he was a regular in Daniel Farke’s side, helping them win the Championship title.

The 20-year-old is a product of Spurs’ academy so there is natural excitement surrounding Skipp, especially after Jose Mourinho suggested that he could one day be the future captain of the club.

Despite this, Spurs fans were quick to criticise the Englishman for his first-half display against the Hornets, as he struggled against Watford’s powerful midfield duo of Juraj Kucka and ex-Lilywhites man Moussa Sissoko.

Was Skipp poor in the first half?

Although Skipp didn’t have the best first half of his career, Spurs, in general, only just edged the affair going into half-time at 1-0, so it seems very premature of these fans to write him off completely based on this.

The 20-year-old still has a big future at Spurs and playing regular first-team football in the Premier League is only going to see him improve, so it is disappointing to see these fans criticising him so quickly.

Per SofaScore, the young 5 foot 9 dynamo graded at a 6.7, which is currently above his last two showings against Man City and Wolves.
