Former Premier League striker Nigel Jemson, a Liverpool fan, insists that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should have no interest in a return to Southampton this summer.

The Saints have been linked with a swoop to sign the £120,000-a-week midfielder, who has battled injury issues throughout his Reds career.

The former Arsenal star has made a total of 105 appearances for the club but he was limited to just 13 games in the Premier League last season.

Do you think Oxlade-Chamberlain will have a big season with Liverpool this year?

No

He played 61 minutes in the 3-0 win over Norwich City on the opening weekend of the season but was not included in the squad for the win over Burnley.

However, Jemson insists that Oxlade-Chamberlain would be silly to make the move to St Mary’s in this transfer window.

Of course, the ex-England international began his career at Saints and made 43 appearances for the club before moving to Arsenal, where he went on to play 198 times.

Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, Jemson said: “I’ll give you a question: Would you leave Liverpool to go to Southampton? I wouldn’t.”
