A number of Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that Callum Wilson suffered an injury against Southampton on Saturday.

The ex-Bournemouth forward was taken off in the second-half and appeared to be struggling with a knock, which has now been revealed by his manager.

Steve Bruce has since confirmed that the attacker has been dealing with a thigh injury, which was the reason behind his withdrawal. The Chronicle have also reported that he played on through the pain when he could have declared himself as injured, in order to help the team.

Wilson scored his second Premier League goal of the season in the 2-2 draw with the Saints, brilliantly heading in from close range, but could now be set for a spell on the sidelines.

These Magpies fans took to Twitter to react to the news, with these specific supporters seemingly frustrated by the update.

How have Newcastle fans reacted?

“Bruce signs striker knowing he has history of injury problems. Bruce bemoans luck when striker with history of injury problems gets injured.”

“Wilson thigh injury I’m hearing. Seemingly not too bad from how he walked off yesterday, but if he’s not 100% for United, then why play him? Get him on ice for Leeds. #NUFC”

Wilson now has a two-week international break to get himself back fit for Newcastle’s next Premier League game. Hopefully, this is only a short-term setback for the striker and he will not miss a significant chunk of the campaign because of it.
