A whole host of Newcastle United fans do not appear to be happy on Twitter following links to James Rodriguez.

It has been reported that Rodriguez wants to leave Everton and that it has been the case since Carlo Ancelotti departed Goodison Park for a return to Real Madrid.

According to Italian publication Calcio In Pillole (via The Chronicle), Newcastle are hoping to pounce on the uncertainty surrounding the midfielder’s future on Merseyside.

Will Newcastle make any more signings before the window shuts?

The Colombian midfielder has not featured in an Everton matchday squad so far this season under Rafael Benitez, with Rodriguez even claiming on one of his Twitch streams: ‘On the weekend I will not play, I don’t even know who Everton is playing, can you please tell me?’

Many Newcastle fans appear to have reacted negatively on Twitter to the Rodriguez rumours.

What have these Newcastle fans had to say?

“Our midfield is immobile as it is. He’s undoubtedly better than what we have but surely this is not the signing we’re lacking?”

@LeeGrogan9

“Sorry, but this is laughable. We won’t pay a loan fee for a centre-back or a holding midfielder, but we can afford James Rodriguez’s wages? This is the story you leak after an inept performance to try to appease supporters for a day or two #NUFC”

@jolivernyc

“What on Earth is going on?”

@luketaylortcd

“Not the type of player we need. I don’t think he’ll put in enough of a shift to be of any benefit in the seemingly inevitable relegation scrap.”

@BlokeOnWheels

“Absolutely no chance”

@Nowhere99936001

“Not a chance is he coming here.”

@Cullercoats11

“Absolute nonsense! Both the fact it would never happen and also that it would be a terrible idea for us. Definitely not what we need “

@FootballFrog

“No thanks.”

@iLurk16

Rodriguez enjoyed a steady season in the Premier League last time out as he registered six goals and five assists, but this was also accompanied by spending 87 days on the sidelines and missing 12 games.

A nice and easy one to start off with, how much is Callum Wilson worth?

Meanwhile, Luke Edwards has claimed on Twitter that it is ‘unlikely‘ the Magpies will be bringing in any more players this summer, following the arrival of Joe Willock on a permanent basis for £25 million – so perhaps these fans are right to play down the rumours.
