Newcastle United journalist Lee Ryder has been discussing claims surrounding Aaron Ramsey and a potential move to the club.

A recent report at Goal has claimed that Newcastle United have ‘sounded out’ Juventus with a view to bringing the 30-year-old Welshman back to the Premier League following his two seasons in Italy. This all comes about as claims surround the Italian giants that they are in desperate need to clear wages off their books, with Ramsey being one of the names mentioned as a possible sacrifice.

However, speaking about the claims during a video on Facebook Live, Ryder appeared to totally dismiss talk that Newcastle United were trying to sign him, and hinted that it was very unlikely to happen even if they were, predominantly based on the finances it would take to get the deal done:

“I mean, I’ve seen all the stuff about Aaron Ramsey, Newcastle simply have not put an approach in for Aaron Ramsey at Juventus.

“I think all you need to do there was check his wages, he’s on £400,000 a week or something absolutely astronomical like that. So that is a concern that Newcastle have been linked with that player.

Newcastle's all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Alan Shearer but how many goals did he score for the club?

“I know he’s been offered around, and to be honest, if you could get him through the door, then it will be a great signing, but the reality is Aaron Ramsey’s agent and representatives will be pushing him around a lot of clubs.”

TIF Thoughts on Lee Ryder’s comments about Aaron Ramsey and Newcastle United…

It does seem like a very strange name to have been linked with Newcastle United, who are known not to be big spenders in the transfer market, and even more so when it comes to wages, which suggests it would take a miracle for a deal to be worked out between the club and the player without someone making a big sacrifice.

Perhaps it’s a move that they could visit further down the line if the club’s proposed takeover happens when they won’t be shackled by Mike Ashley, but for now, it’s a move that is pretty much the definition of a longshot when it comes to being a reality.
