Newcastle United fans have reacted online after some new quotes from their manager suggests a rather uninspiring plan for the season.
In a thread on Twitter, Newcastle correspondent Chris Waugh quoted Steve Bruce as saying: “We have a problem with the ‘keepers and are toying with the idea of naming 4 in the squad.”
Bruce went on to explain that injuries to both Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow have left him unsure about what to do.
The comments came as the Newcastle manager discussed his squad size, suggesting that the club would try to sign somebody if the opportunity came along, though adding that he never expected they would even sign Joe Willock.
After spotting the quotes online, a number of Newcastle supporters had their say on the situation.
What did these Newcastle fans have to say?
“Lord have mercy he’s gonna do it isn’t he.”
If Bruce was to opt for this, he would have Freddie Woodman, who started against West Ham; Mark Gillespie, who was on the bench at the weekend; as well as Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow to pick from throughout the club’s league campaign.
Having lost that opening game of the season 4-2, it’s understandable if some fans are a little on edge right now. And the idea that the club are more likely to name four goalkeepers in their squad as opposed to signing a new outfield player is hardly going to soothe tempers on Tyneside.
