Newcastle United fans on Twitter have been responding to the latest team news to emerge ahead of the club’s upcoming Premier League clash against Aston Villa.

This comes after the official Newcastle United Twitter account shared a post relaying news originally shared by Toon manager Steve Bruce during his press conference ahead of the match against Dean Smith’s side.

A nice and easy one to start off with, how much is Callum Wilson worth?

In the press conference, Bruce revealed that “it doesn’t look as if” Toon midfielder Jonjo Shelvey will be able to play in the match against Villa after picking up a calf injury.

This post then grabbed the attention of a lot of Toon supporters, who believed that his absence could be a positive for the team.

So, what did these Newcastle fans have to say in response to this latest news regarding Shelvey?

“THIS IS GREAT NEWS”

@F3n7y

“YESSSSSSS”

@KEZZAMAGS

“get in!”

@JxshNUFC

“Wasn’t fit enough last week either or the entirety of last season”

@Stephen79877300

“Shelvey missing instantly improves us”

@CT22_NUFC

“Every cloud!”

@scott_eddowes

Looking at the replies to this post, it seems as though these Newcastle fans are quite pleased that Shelvey will seemingly miss the game against Villa this weekend.

Do you think Newcastle will have a better chance of beating Villa without Shelvey?

Yes

Yes

No

No

In our view, while it’s a shame that he has picked up an injury, the fact that he only managed to earn himself a rather disappointing 5.68/10 on the day according to WhoScored in their recent 4-2 defeat against West Ham United, making him Newcastle’s lowest-rated performer, it’s easy to see why these Newcastle fans think their team may have a better chance of beating Villa without him in the side.

Moving forward, perhaps Shelvey’s potential absence at the weekend could pave the way for Joe Willock to take his place after recently signing to the club on a permanent deal from Arsenal.
