Newcastle United fans have been reacting to claims coming out about the proposed transfer of Joe Willock.

It would appear as though Newcastle United are well on their way to completing the signing of the 21-year-old midfielder, with The Athletic claiming that terms between the two clubs have been agreed, with it now just down to Newcastle and the player to make a deal happen.

However, it appears as though there are some setbacks to the saga, with Sky Sports reporting that the two sides are ‘a distance apart’ when it comes to reaching an agreement, with The Telegraph claiming that the hold-up surrounds the length of the contract, although which side is looking for the contract to be longer or shorter is as yet unknown.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

The news of the delay was relayed to Newcastle United supporters by journalist Keith Downie, where it’s fair to say there weren’t a lot of happy voices amongst them:

“Oh dear…”

“This is just the most Newcastle thing ever”
“Same old same old, ‘we did everything we could but just couldn’t get it over the line’”
“Typical #NUFC under an Ashley regime. The chance to sign a quality player and wants to pay him 2 bob and a pickled egg. Pay him what he’s worth and get the deal over the line!!”
“But he’s 100% coming the ITK crew said so. Joke club”
“We really putting our faith in Lee Charnley to close this deal, makes you shiver.”
“Pathetic club”

Despite the delays, it should be noted that Newcastle do have until 12pm on Friday to complete the deal for him to be registered in time for the first game of the season, so there is still a little bit of time left to work things out.

And things have since taken a positive turn, with Lee Ryder reporting that Willock is set to undergo a medical in the coming day or so.
