Newcastle fans have reacted with disgust to some of manager Steve Bruce’s latest comments regarding the club’s transfer business.

This came as Newcastle were set to confirm the return of Joe Willock on a permanent deal for a fee believed to be in excess of £20m.

Magpies correspondent for The Athletic, Chris Waugh, shared the quotes in a Twitter thread, which had Bruce responding to a question which asked if there was any more money left ‘in the pot’ for transfers.

Bruce replied: “I think it’s fair to say the club has gone beyond what I thought they could already. We have a full quota of 25 players. But there’s still a lot to play out in the window and we’ve 1 or 2 things bubbling away.”

Newcastle fans were less than happy with the assertion that the club had gone beyond what their manager expected, and made their feelings known online.

Here’s what these Newcastle fans had to say…

“What on earth was he expecting!?”

“So they’ve gone beyond what he expected to leave him with a squad that’s weaker than it was on the last day of last season. His lack of ambition is embarrassing.”
“If we have gone beyond what Bruce thought with 1 signing, what on earth was he expecting?”
“That’s depressing.”
“Haha one signing? Bruce is easily pleased. What a muppet.”

“Bruce is an absolute embarrassment, we’ve shipped half a dozen players out, and got 1 in and he thinks the club have done all they can?”

“Gone beyond? Signed one player. My word how far we have fallen.”

Evidently, these fans have been left none too impressed by Bruce’s latest quotes. Newcastle have only signed Willock so far this summer, and most fans seem to be hoping for a little more action before the window closes.

Unfortunately, the departures of players such as Yoshinori Muto, Christian Atsu, Florian Lejeune, and Andy Carroll have failed to bring in any money to fund the club’s transfer kitty.
