Former Premier League footballer Carlton Palmer believes Anthony Martial has got 20 top-flight goals in him this season if he can get off to a good start.

Martial managed to score seven goals and provide nine assists for his teammates last season but missed the Red Devils’ final ten Premier League matches with a knee ligament injury.

SportsMole reported previously that United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed Martial was set to return to first-team training this month following the injury, and he was a late substitute in the 5-1 success against Leeds United at Old Trafford on the opening day of the Premier League campaign.

Palmer believes that if the £40.5m-rated attacker can hit form early in the season, he could score 20 Premier League goals.

“I think if he can get off to a good start to the season, I think he’s got 20 goals in him in the Premier League, I really do,” the pundit told This is Futbol.

Since arriving at Old Trafford in 2015, Martial has scored 78 goals and provided another 50 for the Red Devils with his best single season return coming in the 19/20 season where he got himself 23 goals and 12 assists.

Martial offers United plenty of versatility as he can play off the left-wing and also as a centre-forward, with the latter where he featured most last season and scored all his goals from.

Solskjaer has increased the competition for a place in his attack this upcoming season, with the addition of Jadon Sancho who joined the club from Borussia Dortmund for £73m. This now gives the United manager plenty of strength in depth, as he has six first-team attacking options at his disposal.
