Forza Italian Football editor Conor Clancy believes Liverpool target Mikkel Damsgaard is not ready for a move to the Premier League.

Sampdoria midfielder Damsgaard rose to stardom thanks to his impressive performances as Denmark reached the Euro 2020 semi-finals earlier this summer.

The 21-year-old scored two goals in the international tournament, including a free-kick in the narrow defeat to England.

Damsgaard’s stunning displays on the international stage came after making 37 Sampdoria appearances last term, contributing two goals and four assists.

According to Sport Mediaset, Liverpool are one of four Premier League clubs tracking the exciting midfielder.

The report suggests Jurgen Klopp’s side have been joined by Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Leeds United in the race for Damsgaard’s signature before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

However, Italian football expert Clancy fears a move to England could hamper Damsgaard’s development and insists he should head to the Premier League next year instead.

He told TIF: “I think he needs a little bit more time.

Liverpool won the first of their six European cups in which season?

“I think Euro 2020 shot him onto everyone’s radar because he was brilliant and scored two unbelievable goals.

“He is a very good player and has a long way to come but you can see he has the trajectory to come along that path.”
