Football journalist Duncan Castles has been sharing some details regarding the possibility of Liverpool potentially signing Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma this summer.

This comes after Castles co-hosted a recent episode of The Transfer Window Podcast, where he spoke about a range of transfer-related topics concerning a variety of clubs across Europe.

Bissouma has received raved reviews in recent months, while it seems his performances have led to the interest shown in the Malian midfielder and speculation over his future throughout the summer.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

On the subject of Bissouma, Castles had this to say about his current situation.

He said: “My information is that there are enquiries from Liverpool, [Manchester] United and Arsenal as to how much it would cost to sign him.

“Now, he has improved significantly during his time at Brighton, and I think what’s quite important here is that his statistics as a midfielder are exceptionally good, and we know that clubs – in particular, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal – are also heavy on this, use analytics as a filter to decide which players to pursue.

“You can see why his game would fit Liverpool’s setup under [Jurgen] Klopp.”

TIF Thoughts on Duncan Castles’ comments on Liverpool’s interest in Bissouma…

Given how Bissouma, who is now valued at £22.5 million (as per Transfermarkt), ended the 2020/21 Premier League campaign with an overall season rating of 6.98/10, making him Brighton’s second-highest player according to WhoScored, it’s easy to see why these clubs are apparently interested in signing the midfielder this summer.

Should Liverpool sign Bissouma this summer?

Also, with Bissouma making more interceptions per game (1.8) and more tackles per game (2.9) than any other Brighton player to start more than two league games last season, this backs up what Castles said about the player’s statistics supposedly catching the eye of these interested clubs.

In our view, in terms of Liverpool’s apparent interest in Bissouma, given the hefty number of central midfielders that the Reds currently have in their squad, we feel that while they may have some interest in Bissouma, a move for him this summer may not completely necessary.
