The Athletic’s James Pearce has provided a list of clubs that might be interested in signing one of Liverpool’s players this summer.

It’s no secret that Xherdan Shaqiri is up for sale if the right bid comes in. However, with only a few weeks until the end of the transfer market, the 29-year-old remains at the club.

Despite no departure seemingly imminent, Pearce has listed a few of the teams who may yet make a late move for the winger.

While talking as a guest on The Red Sea Podcast, Pearce outlined the Swiss international’s situation: “I was told Lazio and Napoli were the two that had made contact with Shaqiri’s representatives. Previously, there’d been some interest from Spain, I think it was Sevilla, were one of the clubs from there.

“I mean, obviously Shaqiri gave an interview in Italy recently, saying how much he wanted to play in Italy, and was talking up his chances of going to Lazio.

“But, you know, again, at the moment, there just isn’t anything resembling a suitable deal on the table.

TIF Thoughts on Xherdan Shaqiri and Liverpool…

Lyon were recently said to have joined the chase for the Swiss star, but their opening bid fell a long way short of Liverpool’s £12m valuation.

If Liverpool want to make any more signings this summer, they may have to settle for whatever they can get for the winger. Indeed, Fabrizio Romano recently claimed the Reds missed out on Donyell Malen as they couldn’t sell either Shaqiri or Divock Origi.

If they can shift the 29-year-old a move for West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen could potentially be on the cards for Liverpool.

But if the Malen failure was anything to go by, the Reds will need to sell somebody like Shaqiri before they can consider a move for Bowen in any more detail.
