TalkSport insider Alex Crook has provided an update on Leicester City and their targets when it comes to the transfer market.

The Foxes got their league season off to a winning start with a 1-0 victory at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers thanks to a goal from Jamie Vardy. Coupled with a 1-0 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield, it’s a fantastic start to the season for Brendan Rodgers’ men.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

However, there are still some things that need to be worked out on the injury front, as they have the likes of Wesley Fofana, Jonny Evans and Timothy Castagne all out for various lengths of time.

Although they have managed to make up for some of that with the signing of Jannik Vestergaard, speaking on the TalkSport Gameday podcast, Crook confirmed that they aren’t going to stop there – with a potential move for Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu in the offing, despite the defender finding himself linked with Tottenham Hotspur this summer:

Crook said: “I think, from what I’m told, they might still look to add one more defensive player. They’re looking at Takehiro Tomiyasu, who was the Japanese defender who has been heavily linked with Tottenham as well.

“So I think if Brendan can get one more player in before the transfer window closes, that’s where he would like to do a bit more business.”

Will Leicester finish in the Premier League's top four?

If there’s one thing that you can’t accuse Leicester City of at the moment, that’s having a lack of strength in depth when it comes to their defensive options, especially when it comes to right-back and centre-back – the two positions that Tomiyasu happens to play the most.

But going after someone like Tomiyasu is certainly a smart move, especially given how injuries seem to be piling up at the King Power Stadium at the moment.

And with Leicester competing on four fronts this year whilst hoping to put to bed the ghosts of falling agonisingly short of the Champions League for two straight seasons, you can’t blame them for wanting to make sure they have enough players to cover and rotate to get through the season.

But whether or not Tomiyasu would be coming in as a starter or a backup should they complete the deal, we’ll just have to wait and see.
