Leeds' all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Mark Viduka but how many did he score?

After it was recently reported in The Telegraph that Leeds want to give Bamford a new long-term contract to fend off interest from fellow Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur, Wainman had this to say on the matter.

He said: “I love Patrick Bamford, let me just put that out there, but I just don’t think [Tottenham] are looking at Patrick Bamford as a Harry Kane replacement if indeed he does move on.

“We’re looking to get him on a new deal because we want him on a new deal, because he deserves a new deal, he’s a great player. Of course, we might ward off interest from those in and around us, but I don’t think Tottenham Hotspur are in for Patrick Bamford.

“But of course, we want him on a new deal, and I believe he will sign a new deal because Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa have resurrected his career.

“He’s found a home, he loves it here, we love him, so get that new deal signed, Patrick Bamford.”

Leeds signed Bamford back in the 2018 summer transfer window from Championship side Middlesbrough for a fee of £7.11 million.

Since then, the 27-year-old, who is currently valued at £19.8 million, has made 111 appearances for Leeds across all competitions, in which he has managed to score 43 goals and provide 14 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Joe Wainman’s comments on Bamford…

Taking into account how the Englishman ended the 2020/21 season as Leeds’ top goalscorer in the Premier League with 17 goals and the fact that Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas were the only outfield players to play more minutes in the league last season, it’s easy to see why Leeds would be keen to tie Bamford down to a new deal, with his current one set to expire next summer.

Bamford has expressed his gratitude for the progress he has made at Leeds, crediting Bielsa for his transformation since the Argentine’s arrival at Elland Road, so he does appear happy to be paying his manager and the club back for the faith shown in him, as Wainman alludes to.

Do you think Leeds should offer Bamford a new contract?

Yes

Yes

No

No

In our view, despite Bamford putting in a rather poor performance during Leeds’ recent 5-1 defeat against Manchester United where he picked up the lowest match rating (5.61/10) of any Leeds player on the day according to WhoScored, based on his past exploits, Leeds should definitely offer him a new deal so he can hopefully continue being a regular goalscorer for them.
