Leeds United fans have been reacting to a transfer update delivered to them by noted insider Phil Hay.

The update concerned where Leeds are set to look for the rest of the transfer window, having already agreed deals for the likes of left-back Junior Firpo, goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson and the permanent signing of winger Jack Harrison.

Can you remember where Leeds finished in these league seasons? First up: 2018/19

In the tweet, Hay discussed the club’s situation when it came to the centre of midfield, a position that Leeds have placed a lot of emphasis on this summer. One of their targets, Conor Gallagher, has since joined Crystal Palace, whilst recent reports have also linked them to Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien.

Hay stated: “CM is the main thing they’ve been after since Firpo. Gallagher was top choice, no financials agreed on O’Brien yet.”

This update led to some rather interesting reactions from fans when they saw it online, with some questioning the club’s ambitions when it came to their supposed targets:

“I can’t get over that Gallagher was our top choice, and Lewis O’Brien our second, if that was the case we should have just gone out and signed Alex Mowatt on a free from Barnsley, same level.”

“Surely that’s not the height of our ambition”

“Gallagher top choice. Shows our ambition”
“Shouldn’t be much above £5m with add one.”
“Surely we need to aim higher with our signings?”
“CM would be the main 1 for Bielsa as we have Harrison & Raphinha on wings and don’t see a winger starting ahead of them”

Could O'Brien provide good cover for the Leeds midfield?

Of course, there’s still time left in the window for things to change, so they might not want to write things off just yet – a new target might suddenly pop up before all is said and done.
