A number of Leeds United fans have flocked to Twitter following the announcement that Ian Poveda will be leaving the club to play for Blackburn Rovers.
Leeds officially announced this week that the youngster would be joining the Championship outfit on loan until the end of the season.
The article added that, since signing from Manchester City in January 2020, Poveda has made 20 appearances for the Whites and the club hope the loan spell will prepare him adequately to play under Marcelo Bielsa next season.
Leeds’ Twitter account shared the news online and it didn’t take long to elicit a reaction from a number of supporters.
Here’s what these Leeds fans said…
“Not going to lie, I’m gutted about this.”
“Disappointed with this one. I was expecting Ian to play in tomorrow’s cup game. But that alleged fallout with Bielsa must be true. Look after him Blackburn, just like you did with Douglas. The worrying thing is that the squad is becoming thin, only 1 week left to get someone.”
“What are we doing, 2-3 injuries and we’re struggling.”
It seems that many of the club’s faithful would have preferred the exciting young prospect to stay at the club for this season. One of the reasons possibly behind this is simply because it leaves the Leeds squad looking somewhat short of options.
Leeds currently have 25 players listed available for them on the official Premier League website, though a number of these are ‘under-21’ and thus don’t take up a spot in the maximum 25 senior players who must be registered.
With spaces still available to be filled in the team, it remains to be seen as to whether or not the Whites will dip into the transfer market again.
