Leeds United journalist Beren Cross has provided an update on the fitness of a couple of players following their game against Ajax.
Summer signing Junior Firpo and Diego Llorente were absent from the game at the Johan Cruyff Arena, and with just one game to go against Villarreal before their first Premier League game of the season against Manchester United, time is running out for them to get match-fit before competitive games.
Will Leeds challenge for Europe this season?
Speaking about the two defender’s absences on a Facebook Live video, Cross claimed that the two missed the game through injury, but that they were not serious enough to cause much of a concern:
“Firpo and Llorente missed out, and from what I’ve been told, they are just minor knocks.
“So we’ll hopefully hear from Bielsa a couple of days before the Man Utd game, and I’m sure if they are for whatever reason missing from the Villarreal match, then I’m sure before Old Trafford, he will explain what the situation is.
“But from what I’ve been told, they’re not huge concerns, neither of them, which is great, great news.”
TIF Thoughts on Beren Cross’ comments about Junior Firpo and Diego Llorente…
Hopefully, the reasons behind their absences aren’t too serious, because with time running out before the start of the season, not only do they need to recover, but they also need to be 100% match-fit and ready to go when they get to Old Trafford, so it’s good to hear that the injuries aren’t too troublesome.
And given how Leeds United performed the last time that they went to Old Trafford, you would imagine that they are going to need all the defensive help that they can get, which hopefully those two will be able to provide.
