A whole host of Leeds United fans have flocked to Phil Hay’s tweet about Patrick Bamford’s England call-up.
Gareth Southgate has announced his latest England squad for their World Cup qualifying matches against Hungary, Andorra and Poland – and Bamford has received his first-ever call-up to the senior national side.
Will Leeds finish in a European spot this season?
Bamford missed out on a place in the squad for Euro 2020 despite finishing as the second-highest goalscoring Englishman in the Premier League last season, but Southgate appears to have now been won over by the striker.
Many Leeds fans are buzzing on Twitter with the Bamford news.
What have these Leeds fans had to say?
“The Bielsa effect.”
“Thought to myself other night, Bamford coming on, even though it was only against Crewe, showing his ability, his quality and changing the game must be in line for a call-up. Great news.!! Well done @Patrick_Bamford Congratulations! You deserve it.”
“Just heard this and celebrated it like a goal- absolutely brilliant!”
“Thoroughly well deserved”
“Yessssss the boyyyyyyy”
Last season was Bamford’s third in the top flight of English football, but it was the first time he was able to score more than one goal in a single campaign having suffered poor spells at Norwich City, Crystal Palace, Burnley and Middlesbrough beforehand.
Bamford was doubted by pundits before the start of last season as they questioned whether or not he was good enough to lead the line for Leeds, and after netting 17 times in 38 league appearances, he certainly proved that he belongs in the Premier League.
