Former Leeds United star David Norris insists that Tyler Roberts is a fine back-up to Patrick Bamford, although he expects the club to try to sign a striker this summer.

Bamford is undoubtedly the first-choice at Leeds, scoring 17 goals in 38 games in the Premier League last season.

Roberts struggled for minutes somewhat last season and made just 14 starts, playing primarily as an attacking midfielder.

He only scored once, too, in the clash with Southampton at the end of the season.

The Wales international is more of a No.10 than a striker, though, and Norris believes that the club may need to sign a new forward in this transfer window to pack out Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.

However, he is wary of whether a new acquisition in that area would potentially unsettle Bamford after his exceptional season last term and his growth in the first-team.

Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, Norris said: “Tyler Roberts is probably his understudy at the minute.

“And as a number 10, he’s probably a good back-up but I think there definitely needs to be some alternative to Bamford.

“It’s just how much you’re willing to put on that and keep everybody happy.”
