Leeds United have dealt a frustrating injury blow in their pre-season plans, with defender Junior Firpo missing their match with Ajax with a minor knock.

The Athletic’s Phil Hay broke the news on Wednesday evening, as Leeds prepare to take on the Dutch champions at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Firpo only arrived at Elland Road in July 2021, having signed from Spanish giants Barcelona for a fee believed to be in the region of £12.8million. Leeds’ Under-23s team were beaten by Ajax in an earlier kick-off on Wednesday, with a number of younger players featuring in the match, although the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper were also involved.

Firpo made 41 appearances in total for Barcelona, but made the move to Marcelo Bielsa’s side ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, and the club’s supporters would have been hoping to see him hit the ground running.

But with the full-back being ruled out of action with a minor knock, they face a nervous wait to hear the extent of his problem, although Phil Hay revealed that he was being left out of the squad for their game against Ajax as a precaution.

Plenty of the Elland Road faithful took to social media to react to this frustrating update on Firpo ahead of their clash against Ajax on Wednesday evening.
