Nigel Jemson has called for Manchester United to bolster their options in the full-back and goalkeeping departments.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spent big to sign winger Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid central defender Raphael Varane.

Tom Heaton has also returned to Old Trafford after agreeing to join from Premier League rivals Aston Villa on a free transfer.

But Jemson believes United chief Solskjaer needs to be active in the final days of the transfer window due to having doubts over Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and David de Gea.

Shaw was named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year last season after showing a return to form, while Wan-Bissaka has been a regular in Solskjaer’s starting line-up since making a £50million move from Crystal Palace two years ago.

De Gea lost his place to Dean Henderson towards the end of last term and was restricted to 36 appearances in all competitions but has played every minute of the new Premier League campaign.

However, Jemson still has concerns over the trio ahead of deadline day.

The former Premier League striker told TIF: “I still worry about Shaw and whether he is going to be as consistent as last season. He was a top player last year and at Euro 2020.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

“Wan-Bissaka is a good one-on-one defender but he’s not really good going forward.

“De Gea is past his best, for me. They tried Henderson in goal but that’s not really succeeded so there are still problems.”
