Liverpool do not need to search for a new central midfielder in the transfer market as they already have a ready-made Georginio Wijnaldum replacement in Curtis Jones, according to Nigel Jemson.
The Reds have been forced to contend with the loss of Wijnaldum after the central midfielder, who played a key role in their first-ever Premier League title win in 2020, opted against signing a new deal and joined French giants Paris Saint-Germain instead.
Wijnaldum made 237 appearances for Liverpool following his £25million switch from Premier League rivals Newcastle United five years ago, meaning boss Jurgen Klopp has lost a vastly experienced technician in the middle of the park.
Is Jones good enough to replace Wijnaldum?
Yes
No
However, former England under-21 international Jemson thinks Liverpool youth product Jones is capable of filling the void left by Wijnaldum.
The 20-year-old has made a promising start to his career, scoring seven goals in 47 senior appearances for the Merseyside club.
Jemson thinks Jones has a bright future ahead of him.
He exclusively told TIF: “People say if one goes out, you should bring one in. But they’ve got people there.
“Jones didn’t play a lot last year but has got huge potential and has always done well when I’ve watched him come in and play. They have still got options.”
