David Norris has called for Leeds United to pounce on Aston Villa potentially dropping their interest in Todd Cantwell and sign the Norwich City winger.

Villa were thought to be the frontrunners to capture Cantwell, with Dean Smith’s side reportedly in advanced talks last month.

But Villa then turned their attentions elsewhere and signed Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey in a deal worth £25million earlier this week.

Having already signed Emiliano Buendia for a club-record fee from Norwich City and sealed Ashley Young’s return to Villa Park, it is unknown as to whether Smith will reignite the interest in Cantwell.

Cantwell played a key role as Norwich sealed their return to the Premier League by winning the Championship title last season, with the 23-year-old scoring six goals and contributing eight assists.

Leeds hold a long-term interest in Cantwell and Norris hopes boss Marcelo Bielsa can tempt the England under-21 international to Elland Road.

Leeds' all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Mark Viduka but how many did he score?

Speaking exclusively to TIF, the former Leeds midfielder said: “I really like him. I’ve seen him over the years and he is a good player who can create chances and score.

“I could see him doing quite well at Leeds, in that attacking line-up. He’s a very good player. If they have a chance of getting him and I saw that Leeds have signed Cantwell, I’d be happy with that.”
