Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has been speaking about a potential summer target on Everton’s radar.

The transfer insider spoke about Spurs ace Harry Winks and his future in north London, with Romano believing Rafael Benitez’s side hold an interest in the 25-year-old midfielder.

Would you like to see Everton sign Harry Winks?

No

Winks has not been a regular starter in Tottenham’s pre-season friendlies, with the Englishman only coming on as a second-half substitute in their last two outings against Chelsea and Arsenal.

The midfielder featured for the north London club throughout their youth ranks, but now it seems a future away from the Lilywhites may be on the cards as a result of inconsistent game time.

Speaking on the Last Word On Spurs YouTube channel, Romano had the following to say on his future in north London.

“I’m told that Everton have an interest in him. There were reports around and I’m told that it is true that they have an interest.

“But I’m also told that the player is really happy at Tottenham. In the last days, I’ve been told that the player is happy. Of course, he’s not a starter as of now. But he could be a player with a lot of potential.

“He’s happy at Tottenham and with Tottenham life with Nuno [Espirito Santo], so I’m not 100% sure he’s leaving the club this summer.”

TIF Thoughts on Winks’ future…

Tottenham have welcomed back 20-year-old midfielder Oliver Skipp from his season out on loan with Norwich City, and the youngster has played a prominent role in Nuno Espirito Santo’s pre-season friendlies.

We think the future of Winks could come down to whether Spurs are able to bring in another midfielder this summer. However, we also think Everton could prove to be a good move for the 25-year-old.

Ahead of the 2022 World Cup, Winks – who has 10 England caps – may well be considering his future away from Spurs if he does not feel he will be able to break into the starting XI on a consistent basis.

And we think Everton could be a side where the £18m-rated ace would be able to slot into Benitez’s starting XI and prove to be a regular starter.

With previous fitness concerns surrounding Everton’s midfielders, as well as links between Fabian Delph and a move away, perhaps there could be a space for Winks to fill in at Goodison Park.
