Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge believes that Crystal Palace have pulled off a masterstroke with their deal to sign Michael Olise from Reading this summer.

The Eagles struck a deal worth £8m to bring him in from the Championship club.

Olise emerged as a real talent during his time in the lower league, being named EFL Young Player of the Season last term, having scored seven goals in 44 games.

Will Patrick Vieira still be Crystal Palace's manager at the end of the season?

An attacking midfielder who can also play on both flanks, Olise has the distinction of being Patrick Vieira’s first signing as manager and he will be hoping to make a real impact in the Premier League.

Bridge thinks that the deal to bring him in is a smart one for Palace, and has bemoaned Tottenham Hotspur missing out on both him and Eberechi Eze.

Indeed, he has claimed that Mark Warburton, at QPR, was also disappointed that Spurs did not try to sign Eze before he ended up at Selhurst Park.

He said: “Olise is such a clever signing from Crystal Palace.

“You look at Spurs, Bergwijn, £26 million, and then you think Eze, 12, 13 million, Olise, eight. Eze at Tottenham could have been really exciting.

“I know Mark Warburton, who I get on well with at QPR, was saying ‘I wish Tottenham went for him, Michael’. I think Palace have probably had the best window of most teams, to be honest.”
