The Athletic’s Crystal Palace reporter Matt Woosnam is looking forward to watching Eberechi Eze play under Patrick Vieira at Selhurst Park, he has told This Is Futbol.

Eze has been ruled out for some time after sustaining a serious injury to his Achilles during training in May.

Sky Sports have reported as a result that he is likely to be out until 2022, meaning he will miss the first few months of the Vieira reign following his appointment as manager.

Do you think Eze is good enough to play for England?

The 23-year-old joined Palace last summer from QPR and impressed at times last season under the management of Roy Hodgson.

In total, he made 34 Premier League appearances, scoring four goals and registering six assists.

He played primarily on the left side of midfield, before moving into a playmaking role behind the striker, and Woosnam is excited to see how Vieira uses him in his system.

Speaking exclusively to TIF, the journalist said: “Eberechi Eze, he showed some versatility last season, playing on the left under Roy Hodgson and then moving into the middle as a 10, which actually, I didn’t feel suited him, but I think that’s partly because of the system.

“I’d be interested to see him in a Vieira system in the middle.”
