The Athletic reporter Matt Woosnam reckons Crystal Palace fans would love to see Okay Yokuslu join from Celta Vigo.

The 6 ft 3 midfield beast has returned to the Spanish club following a productive loan spell with West Bromwich Albion during the second half of last season.

Having made 16 appearances for West Brom, Yokuslu went on to represent Turkey at Euro 2020 earlier this summer.

Although the central midfielder was unable to stop the Baggies falling into the Championship thanks to relegation, Yokuslu won over a number of admirers.

Palace and Leeds United are keen to welcome Yokuslu back to the Premier League after he was told he has no future at Celta Vigo, with Marca claiming he could be available for just £5m.

Patrick Vieira, who was appointed as Roy Hodgson’s Selhurst Park successor last month, is keen to freshen up his squad and Woosnam admits the 27-year-old would be a shrewd piece of business as he is available for a cut-price fee.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

Speaking exclusively to TIF, Woosnam said: “The Palace fans have reacted to the links to him very positively.

“The fee mentioned in the foreign press was something like £8million. If he was to come in for that, I think people would feel positively about that. That seems to be the general consensus among the supporters.

“I do think sometimes people see a player do well against their team and hype them up, but I don’t think that is the case with Yokuslu.”
