The Athletic’s Crystal Palace journalist Matt Woosnam believes that Andros Townsend has earned himself a “fantastic” move by joining Everton this summer.

The winger’s contract at Selhurst Park expired at the end of the season and he was subsequently forced to find himself a new club.

Townsend was actually a key player for Palace last season, making a total of 36 appearances and scoring once, while also laying on three assists. In total, he made 185 appearances for the club.

Will Patrick Vieira still be Crystal Palace's manager at the end of the season?

But he has looked for pastures new and will now attempt to make an impact for new Everton boss Rafael Benitez at Goodison Park.

And Woosnam thinks that the deal is an exceptional one for Townsend, as he will get plenty of game time and move into a similar role he was in at Palace, where he could be used as both a starting player and an impact substitute.

Speaking to This Is Futbol, Woosnam said: “I think Everton’s a fantastic move for him. I think he’s probably likely to be in a similar position at Everton as he was in at Palace so I think for him, that was a good move.”
