Transfer insider Dean Jones has been speaking on the latest edition of Touchline Talk to discuss all things transfers.

One team which have been busy this summer is Crystal Palace, and Jones revealed his concerns about the changes made at Selhurst Park this summer.

Will Vieira last the season at Palace?

No

No

The Eagles have already spent £45.12m this summer thanks to the arrivals of Marc Guehi, Joachim Andersen and Michael Olise, with just over one week until their 2021/22 Premier League opener against Chelsea.

On top of this, there has been change off the pitch, too – with Roy Hodgson being replaced by former Nice manager Patrick Vieira, who takes on his first Premier League managerial post.

However, Jones spoke of his hesitation in tipping the Eagles to soar this season given how much change they have undergone ahead of the new campaign.

He said: “As a neutral, I’m very interested to see how it works. I think it’s a massive, massive risk, what they’re doing, here. They’re going from one extreme to another, and that can cost you your place in the Premier League.

“It could work out, but on the flip-side of that, if this season doesn’t start well, then you’ve got to make that decision of do you trust Patrick Vieira to turn things around, or are you quickly going to sack him and move on to somebody else to try and save you already?”

TIF Thoughts on Palace’s expectations…

It is interesting to hear Jones’ views on the changes made at Palace surrounding the new look of the club following their summer changes.

We can see where Jones is coming from. Vieira has no experience of managing in the Premier League and the signings they have made are all relatively young.

Neither Marc Guehi nor Michael Olise have a Premier League appearance to their name, so it will be interesting to see what roles they play in the Palace team.

However, Eberechi Eze’s arrival last season proved an exciting one, but it just begs the question of whether Vieira’s lack of experience in the dugout and the faith shown towards the new arrivals may come back to bite them.
