An Italian football expert has urged Chelsea to break their transfer record and sign Euro 2020 sensation Federico Chiesa before the transfer window slams shut.

Chiesa, who joined Juventus from Italian rivals Fiorentina for a potential fee of £54million last October, scored two goals in seven appearances as Italy were crowned European champions at Wembley earlier this month.

According to German media outlet Bild, Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea have already made a move for Chiesa. The report suggests Juventus have rejected an offer in the region of €100million from the west London club.

Chelsea face competition for Chiesa’s services, according to La Repubblica. The Italian newspaper has reported that Liverpool have failed with a similar bid.

Chiesa, 23, scored 15 goals and contributed 11 assists in 46 Juventus appearances last season.

Forza Italian Football editor Conor Clancy has been following Chiesa closely for a number of years and believes the attacking-minded midfielder would take Chelsea’s challenge for next season’s Premier League title to the next level.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

He told TIF: “If Chiesa went to Chelsea, he would absolutely tear it up. He is excellent and another player who, over the last year, has gone to new heights.

“Everybody saw at the Euros what we have been seeing in Italy for the last year. He is phenomenal.

“Unless anyone throws huge money, a move isn’t going to happen.”
