Express and Star journalist Luke Hatfield believes that despite losing Jack Grealish, it’s exciting times at Aston Villa.

The club have completed five deals so far this summer with Danny Ings, Leon Bailey, Ashley Young, Emi Buendia and Axel Tuanzebe all joining the club.

Villa finished 11th in the Premier League table last season on 55 points, with manager Dean Smith adding plenty of quality to his side this summer to give Villa every opportunity of finishing even higher this time around.

Obviously losing Jack Grealish to Manchester City was a blow for Villa, and there was a disappointing opening day loss against Watford, but Hatfield believes that the club are still going to have a really good year, telling This is Futbol: “It’s exciting times at Villa. Despite losing Jack Grealish I still think they’re going to have a really good year.

“Bailey’s obviously a really exciting player, Buendia at Norwich was fantastic, creates plenty of chances and Danny Ings his track record is one that’s easy to see. I think you know those players together can combine really well and probably give them a little bit more of a balanced attack, I think that’s the key for them now.”

Villa have been linked with further additions this summer also. The club were reported to be interested in Norwich midfielder Todd Cantwell, but the Athletic’s Michael Bailey stated that the club wont be pursuing a deal for him during this window.

Also, Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse was linked with the club, with Sky Sports reporting earlier this summer that Villa had a £25m bid turned down by the Saints.

With the additions already made and the links to further additions, it appears that Dean Smith is assembling a very strong Premier League side  and there will be hope amongst the Villa faithful that they can push on even further than last season.
