David Norris reckons the record-breaking sale of Jack Grealish will count against Aston Villa as they pursue Todd Cantwell.

Talisman Grealish joined reigning Premier League champions Manchester City for a British transfer record £100million fee last week.

While the vast majority of fans were disappointed with Grealish’s sale, with some suggesting the club should have held out for a higher fee, chief executive Christian Purslow confirmed Villa were unable to negotiate after City agreed to meet the England international’s release clause.

Will Aston Villa sign Cantwell before the window shuts?

Villa have been busy during the transfer window and boss Dean Smith has bolstered his attacking options in the form of Danny Ings, Leon Bailey and club record signing Emiliano Buendia.

Having already raided newly-promoted Norwich City for Buendia, Villa have been keeping tabs on 23-year-old winger Cantwell.

Cantwell, like Buendia, played a key role as the Canaries sealed their return to the Premier League by clinching the Championship title last season.

But Norris believes Villa will have to pay over the odds to sign Cantwell after cashing in on Grealish.

Which brand is currently Villa's main kit manufacturers?

Speaking exclusively to TIF, he said: “Because Grealish has gone, Norwich will think Villa have got the dough now so they can add another £10million or £15million onto their price tag for Cantwell.

“They will then see if they really want him because they probably don’t want to lose him anyway.

“I think there’s still going to be some crazy money being spent and I can see that one being cranked up.”
