Aston Villa football writer Matt Maher has stated that Carney Chukwuemeka’s ‘ceiling is very high’ after the youngster made his first start for the club.
Earlier this week, Villa cruised to a 6-0 win over League Two side Barrow in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
The match also afforded 17-year-old Chukwuemeka an opportunity to make his first start in senior football. Judging from the result, and then the reaction from Maher on the E&S Villa Podcast, it sounds as if the teenager impressed.
While discussing the player, Maher stated that Chukwuemeka is going to be an interesting player to watch in the near future.
He explained himself, saying: “You can’t really look past Chukwuemeka. For his age, his build at his age, you know, he looks physically like a man. And that’s, you know, that’s a huge thing as well.
“He’s going to be the one that is going to be really interesting to watch, because his ceiling is very high.”

Considering the teenager already stands at 6ft 1in, it’s easy to see why Maher references Chukwuemeka’s physicality.
Though of course, there is much more to the talent than just size. The youngster has long been regarded as a rising star, so perhaps we will start to see more of him as the season develops.
Chukwuemeka looks to be a highly promising player and would have likely featured for the first team long before had it not been for of positive virus test back in January.
At such as young age though, there is no rush to push the 17-year-old into a regular first-team spot just yet. However, having now made his first start for Villa, it seems certain that Chukwuemeka will go on to play many more times for the Birmingham outfit.
