Football journalist Dean Jones has been sharing some insight regarding Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette and his current situation at the north London club.

This comes after Jones made an appearance on a recent edition of Touchline Talk, where he spoke about a variety of transfer-related topics.

Lacazette has been linked with a move away from the north London club this summer and has arguably never hit the heights since his move four years ago – never being able to top a tally of 14 league goals in his first season in north London.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

On the subject of Jones had this to say about the striker and his situation.

He said: “There’s been friction, no doubt about that between Lacazette and [Mikel] Arteta coming into this season.

“Lacazette – they’ve been looking for buyers for him, not been able to find one.

“They’ve been trying to find a new forward, haven’t yet signed one.”

Arsenal signed Lacazette back in the 2017 summer transfer window from French club Olympique Lyon for a fee of £47.7 million.

Since then, the 30-year-old, who is currently valued at £25.2 million, has made 170 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions in which he has managed to score 65 goals and provide 28 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Dean Jones’ comments on Lacazette…

Given how Lacazette was Arsenal’s top goalscorer in the Premier League last season with 13 goals, perhaps it wouldn’t be wise for the club to let him go this summer, especially with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being linked with a move away this summer as well.

However, if there has been some behind-the-scenes friction between Lacazette and Arteta as Jones mentioned, then perhaps it would be best if he does move on to avoid any further potential issues cropping up.

With the Frenchman’s contract running out next summer, now may even be the best time to seal an exit from north London.

Moving forward, if Lacazette does leave the club before the summer transfer window deadline comes around, the club will definitely need to replace him with another striker, especially if Aubameyang leaves as well.
