Leeds United fans have been reacting to injury claims surrounding Joe Gelhardt ahead of the new season.

The 19-year-old has yet to make a first-team appearance for Leeds United, although given his presence on the bench for Marcelo Bielsa’s men at various times last campaign, there is just the slightest hint that he might be in a position to make his break into the team this upcoming year, although former Leeds man Paul Robinson thinks that a move out on loan could be more beneficial.

Can you remember where Leeds finished in these league seasons? First up: 2018/19

However, any plans for his future – whether they be at Elland Road or elsewhere – appear to have taken a little bit of a setback as the season draws ever closer.

According to @lufcfanzone, which exclusively relayed a claim from ‘a source close to Joe Gelhardt’, the forward rolled his ankle last week and should be back to full fitness ‘in a couple of weeks’, before going on to add that he ‘will explode at Leeds this season, he’s super fit and his confidence is sky high’.

This led to a lot of reaction from the Leeds supporters online when it was relayed to them:

“Good to know Joffy’s injury isn’t too bad.”

“Damn, really could’ve been a good few games with him against Guiseley and Fleetwood”
“Looking forward to seeing him this season, hopefully we get a decent cup run”
“Roberts was woeful and Costa was average . Both are not good enough to change a game. Worrying at the moment. This squad will do well to get 12th”
“Good news. It’s really nice to have some injury updates, instead of the normal ‘vacuum’ we have to suffer with players just disappearing.”
“Gutted he misses out on pre-season. Would make it easier for him to get in the first team”
“A better prospect than Roberts for sure”

Do you think Gelhardt is ready to play for the senior Leeds side?

Hopefully, the injury hasn’t dampened whatever plans the club had for him too much and he’ll be back in the first-team picture sooner rather than later.
