Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear has provided an update on the club’s reported interest in Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien.

It has been claimed that Leeds United are taking an interest in the midfielder, who made 42 league appearances for the Terriers last season, with reports suggesting that it would cost Marcelo Bielsa’s men as much as £10m in order to secure his services.

Can you remember where Leeds finished in these league seasons? First up: 2018/19

Central midfield is a position that the club seem to be focusing on a lot this summer as they look to improve on what was a very impressive first season back in the Premier League.

But speaking about the matter on The Square Ball podcast, Kinnear claimed that whilst the club do have him as a potential candidate to sign this summer, there has yet to be anything official from their end to try and make the deal happen:

“His name has been on the scouting reports, but there’s no movement on that at the moment.”

TIF Thoughts on Angus Kinnear’s comments about Lewis O’Brien and Leeds United…

With the first game of the season now looming down upon us with Leeds set to take on Manchester United this Saturday lunchtime, and with the window now into its final month of operation until January, you would think that if a deal was going to happen for O’Brien, then there would have been some effort made towards that end already.

Would you like to see Leeds sign O'Brien this summer?

No

If Kinnear were to say there was some movement or that they were close, then that could indicate a deal might be done in time before everything is drawn to a close. And obviously things could change – if an injury to someone like Stuart Dallas in the first game that rules him out for the season occurs, suddenly the need to sign O’Brien might become greater.

But all going naturally, it would seem as though this deal will drift into nothing rather than O’Brien making the move to Elland Road based on Kinnear’s comments.
