Joe Wainman from All Leeds TV believes that Helder Costa’s time at Elland Road is up – and joked that some supporters would even drive him to Spain to get rid of him.
Costa initially made the switch from Wolves on loan two years ago before signing permanently last summer ahead of the Whites’ Premier League return.
Will Leeds finish in the top seven this season?
Yes
No
However, just seven goals and nine assists in 65 league appearances across both divisions isn’t a great return for someone that the Yorkshire giants forked out around £16m on.
Costa was a regular in Marcelo Bielsa’s team for large parts of last season, and started the opening eight Premier League matches.
But with the Argentine clearly looking to add another winger, it would suggest that his short time with the club is already ending.
According to The Athletic, Spanish outfit Valencia are keen on bringing Costa back to La Liga after a brief stint on loan at Deportivo de La Coruna six years ago during his Benfica days.
He played 90 minutes at Blackburn in midweek, but Wainman told This is Futbol that it’s simply not happened at Leeds and thinks it’s time to part ways:
“I do think his time might be up, it’s a deal that didn’t go well. I don’t think he ever got into his stride at Leeds United.
“I think Valencia are interested in him, teams in La Liga. I think some fans would drive him to Spain if given the opportunity.
“I always want a Leeds player to go well, but it’s just never worked out and it’s time for him to move on.”
