Former Fulham goalkeeper Mark Crossley believes that Aleksandar Mitrovic can be one of the best strikers in the Championship this season.

The Cottagers have dropped into the second-tier after a poor campaign in the Premier League last term.

Mitrovic perhaps did not contribute as much as he would have liked to last season, scoring just three goals in 27 Premier League outings.

However, this term, he has already scored twice in three games, netting in the 5-1 thumping of Huddersfield Town and the 2-1 win over Millwall.

Fulham, of course, also drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough prior to Saturday’s clash against Hull City, so it really has been a bright start to the campaign.

Crossley insists that the club can win promotion back to the Premier League and he thinks that Mitrovic will play a key role in that run.

The Serbia international has an exceptional record in the Championship, scoring 44 goals and laying on 10 assists in 85 outings for both Fulham and Newcastle United going into that fixture versus Hull.

Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, he said: “I’ve just been looking through the squad, I think it’s got enough. I think at the beginning of the season, at 5/1, I have to admit, I had a little tickle on Fulham getting promoted and again, if he can keep hold of the likes of Mitrovic.

“That guy shouldn’t be playing in the Championship, although he didn’t perform too well in the Premier League last season, I see him in the Championship as being one of the main men.”
