Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on the future of Jack Grealish at Aston Villa following claims about his future.

Reports over the weekend claimed that Manchester City have submitted a bid of £100m for the 25-year-old, whose future at the club is still very much up in the air with Aston Villa having offered him a new contract in order to entice him to stay at the club.

Speaking about the offer from Manchester City on Sky Sports News, Romano seemed to hint that there was something of a time limit when it came to the deal, and that he expected things to be much clearer when it comes to Grealish’s future by the end of the week:

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

“The situation on this one is really particular because to be honest, I’m told that this week it has to be decided. If Manchester City are not signing Jack Grealish this week, he’s prepared to sign a new deal with Aston Villa. So timing will be so important for Manchester City this week on the Jack Grealish deal, but also on Harry Kane.

“So I think they need to make a decision in the next few days to complete the deal for Jack Grealish or leave him to sign a new contract with Aston Villa.

“I’m really curious to see what’s going to happen in the next hours, because I’m told that also the player is waiting to see what happens between the two clubs, if everything will be completed with the two clubs, they have a contract ready for Jack Grealish from Manchester City, but it is the same from Aston Villa.

“So it’s a ‘stand by’ moment, but I think in the coming hours, the situation will be clear and I expect Manchester City to continue pushing because they are really confident. They were really confident during the weekend, now it’s time to complete this deal.”

TIF Thoughts on Fabrizio Romano’s comments about Jack Grealish at Aston Villa…

Will Grealish leave Villa this summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Grealish has come close to leaving the club before when Tottenham Hotspur were showing an interest in 2018, but this deal feels much further down the line than that one, especially if Romano’s claims about a contract offer being in place between Manchester City and the England man are true.

And from Aston Villa’s point of view, it would make sense for them to try and come to a conclusion by the end of this week, either by accepting Manchester City’s offer or trying to persuade Grealish to sign an extension at Villa Park.

Because with the Premier League season now less than two weeks away, it would be great to have some clarity on what the rest of the season is going to look like for them depending on if he’s going to be there or not, and indeed what the rest of the transfer window will need to look like if they have to replace him.
