Tottenham Hotspur journalist Charlie Eccleshare has been speaking on the latest edition of The View from The Lane podcast to discuss all things related to the north London club.

One topic which was discussed was the future of veteran defender Toby Alderweireld following Belgium’s exit from this summer’s Euros.

Would you sell Alderweireld this summer?

Yes

No

No

According to the Spurs journalist, the Belgian centre-back has already told the north London club he will be looking to move on from the Lilywhites this summer.

The report also states Spurs are already looking to bring in two new centre-backs this summer with Takehiro Tomiyasu, Joachim Andersen and Jannik Vestergaard all linked with a potential summer switch to Spurs.

Discussing the 32-year-old’s Spurs future, Eccleshare has the following to say on the matter.

“There’s interest in him from Royal Antwerp and we know that Antwerp is where Alderweireld’s from – a very special, important place to him.

“And they do have a wealthy owner. It’s just a question of could they really afford him? And they have just bought Bjorn Engels as well to play in that position.

“So I don’t know, that one will be difficult, there’s interest in Spain and Italy as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Alderweireld’s future…

The Belgian has proven to be a great servant for the Lilywhites since joining the club back in 2015 from Atletico Madrid in which he has since racked up 236 appearances across all competitions (via Transfermarkt).

There was reported interest from Manchester United in signing Alderweireld a number of years ago but a deal was unable to be agreed upon.

Now, the 32-year-old is only valued at £9.9m and with a weekly wage bill of £150k, could Daniel Levy be forced to take a hit on the transfer fee to offload the Belgian’s hefty weekly wage packet this summer?
