The football journalist, Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on his latest Twitch stream about all things transfer related.

One name which was mentioned during his stream was the reported Tottenham Hotspur target Takehiro Tomiyasu of Serie A side Bologna.

Should Spurs sign Tomiyasu this summer?

And according to Romano, Spurs are now getting closer to completing a deal for the £18m-rated centre-back.

It has been reported Spurs are looking to overhaul their defence this summer with the addition of two new centre-backs with Toby Alderweireld believed to be looking for a summer exit.

Speaking about the future of the Japanese defender, Romano had the following to say on the matter.

“Tottenham are working on it. Their proposal is on the table. Bologna are talking directly now with Tottenham after they agreed on personal teams with [Takehiro] Tomiyasu.

“Arsenal are not in the race for Takehiro Tomiyasu. So, Spurs are leading the race to bring him to England.

“And I see the deal getting really close. It’s not done yet, but it’s really getting close.”

TIF Thoughts on the rumoured deal…

Tomiyasu played a prominent role for Bologna during the 2020/21 Serie A campaign which saw the Japanese international feature 31 times (via Transfermarkt).

It is believed Bologna are looking for a bid in the region of £17m/£21m from Spurs for the centre-back’s services and we think in the current market that is a reasonable price to pay for a starting defender.

Tomiyasu would also bring some versatility to Spurs with the ability to also play at right-back which may come as welcome news to some with Serge Aurier’s future under serious speculation.
