Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has been discussing potential summer signings on the latest episode of his Here We Go podcast

One name which was discussed was the former Southampton defender, Ryan Bertrand, who has been heavily linked with a potential move to Leicester City.

Would signing Bertrand be a smart move from Leicester?

Yes

Yes

No

No

A report from Sky Sports has suggested a deal had been agreed upon between the two parties to complete the move, however, two weeks on, nothing has been confirmed by the club.

Bertrand became a free agent at the end of June after his spell at Southampton came to a conclusion with the player not renewing his contract.

Discussing a potential deal to see Bertrand sign for the Foxes, Romano had the following to say on the matter.

“[Ryan] Bertrand goes to Leicester. He’s going to sign his contract in the next days, but it’s done. The announcement is expected really, really soon and he will be the new left-back.

“They were trying for Robin Gosens two months ago, but it was almost impossible because Atalanta were asking for €40m-€45m and so Bertrand will be the new left-back.”

TIF Thoughts on a potential move…

Leicester left-back James Justin is currently making his comeback from an ACL injury which is set to keep him out until the end of the year.

With Justin’s absence, this makes Luke Thomas the Foxes’ obvious choice at left-back and leaves, an opportunity for the experienced Bertrand to provide adequate cover until Justin makes his return.

Thomas is still only 20 years old and with Leicester set to play extra games in the 2021/22 season as a result of their Europa League qualification, an extra left-back could prove a smart move from Brendan Rodgers.
