Judging by the responses, many Sunderland fans have been left delighted by the news.

O’Nien joined the Black Cats in 2018 from Wycombe Wanderers and his versatility provides a very good option for Sunderland, with him able to play in numerous different positions throughout his career.

The 26-year-old, whose main position is right-back, played in four different positions for the Black Cats last season, playing mainly at centre-back, featuring there on 25 occasions.

O’Nien made 44 appearances for Sunderland across all competitions last year and his departure would arguably have left ’s side with a big hole to fill.
