Many Celtic supporters have been talking about a news update regarding Ben Davies that emerged on social media recently.

Journalist Stephen McGowan has recently reported that Liverpool’s Ben Davies is back on Celtic’s radar, some months after a move to Parkhead had fallen through and he had joined the Reds for a £2million deal in January.

Liverpool would rather sell the Englishman for a profit, but Bournemouth are also in the chase with the Hoops over a possible loan deal. McGowan’s update goes on to claim that the Bhoys are now ‘desperate’ to sign new players before their Champions League qualifier against Midtjylland.

What did Celtic fans make of this news?

“Pretty clear he was only after the money. Knew he wouldn’t get a sniff of the first team. We may need players but for what happened in Jan, nah. Let him rot in the reserves.”

“But he did turn us down , not for me on a loan with no chance of coming permanent.”

“Might be good to actually sign a player. Loans are part of the reason the current squad is a shambles...”

“Tough to see it happening for me but probably more likely than 5mil on Carter Vickers.”

Many of these Celtic fans are annoyed that this may only prove to be a loan deal and not a permanent deal.

The Hoops have been linked with Tottenham’s Cameron Carter-Vickers and Rubin Kazan defender Carl Starfelt as well as Hajduk Split defender Mario Vuskovic, who they’d like to sign on a permanent basis.

Celtic fans, can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players? First up: who is this?

So even though Davies has loads of experience playing in the English second tier with Preston, signing him on a loan deal would only be a short-term fix. The Hoops had two defenders on loan last season, so it might be time to fix their issues on a long-term basis instead of sticking to stopgap solutions.
