Journalist Andy Newport has talked about a financial update regarding Rangers which could provide a boost to the Gers this season.

Steven Gerrard’s Rangers will play Malmo or HJK Helsinki in the Champions League third qualifying round in what will be their first Champions League fixture in ten years.

Newport appeared on the latest episode of the Record Rangers podcast and he talked about the financial boost that the Gers can get from taking part in Europe, even if they were unable to advance into the group stages.

The journalist stated that the bonuses have increased and as a result, Rangers could earn £7-8 million if they qualify for the group stages of the Europa League.

He stated: “There’s a lot of finance on the line. Not just qualifying for the Champions League, I think they’ve even increased the Europa League entry qualification fee. So if Rangers get through this round, they’d be guaranteed to qualify for the Europa League play-offs, I think the money’s went up from £3 million to about £7-8 million, something like that.”

TIF Thoughts on Rangers finances…

There is certainly a significant Champions League qualification cash incentive and it will be the first time that the Gers could be getting that in a decade.

Tore André Flo is Rangers club-record signing, but how much was he bought for?

Rangers could get £2.5million for each win and £800,000 for a draw in the qualifying stages of the Champions League, and if they qualify for the group stage, they will receive as much as £14 million for that alone.

UEFA’s prize pot for participants has increased since 2018, which shows that the Scottish clubs could well benefit a lot. So Rangers should make sure that they do well in the Champions League as it could potentially help them sign better players in the future.
