Steven Gerrard has confirmed in an interview with Sky Sports that conversations are being held with Connor Goldson over a new deal.

Goldson was a mainstay for Gerrard’s side last season as he managed to play every single minute in all competitions, but his current deal is set to expire next summer, which has seen talks commence over a new contract.

Will Rangers win the league this season?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

The defender was signed by Gerrard from Brighton and his form from last season has seen him being linked with a move south of the border and into the Premier League, with a whole host of clubs said to hold an interest in the defender.

The Rangers boss appeared confident when speaking about Goldson’s future.

And, it has since been reported that the defender has agreed a new deal, though it hasn’t officially been confirmed. Goldson has also hinted that he will put pen to paper.

“Well, listen, I’ve got a fantastic personal relationship with Connor. I remember bringing him up here three years ago and he’s done an incredible job, he’s got stronger and stronger each season. He’s very comfortable here, he’s a big leader, we’ve given him big responsibility making him vice-captain of this club.

“So he’s very settled, talks are ongoing. I’m confident we can get to where we want to get it. But at the same time, we will respect Connor’s space where he’s at and there’s no need to rush.

“As I say, we’ve got that strong personal relationship, his advisers are in touch with the club and things are moving forward. Hopefully, sooner rather than later, we can get him tied down because he’s very important to the team and to the club and to me, personally.

“He’s robust, he’s a top player, he’s a leader, and as a manager, they’re the players you want to rely on.”

TIF Thoughts on Goldson’s future…

Tore André Flo is Rangers club-record signing, but how much was he bought for?

Goldson was immense for Rangers last season as he achieved a 7.4/10 WhoScored rating and made the Premiership WhoScored Team of the Season. He was also a huge reason behind their unbeaten run as the Gers only conceded 10 goals across an entire SPFL season.

There was a small amount of talk earlier in the summer that Goldson should be considered for an England call-up, and that may yet be forthcoming if he was to leave Rangers and prove himself to be good enough in the Premier League.
