Lots of Celtic supporters have been fuming at Anthony Ralston following his performance against Bristol City.

The Hoops played Championship outfit Bristol City in a pre-season friendly recently and Ralston had started that game at right-back. The game ended goalless and Ralston was taken off by Ange Postecoglou well before the end of the clash.

Pretty recently, Ralston was handed a new contract by Celtic and he was tied down to the club for another season. Celtic took this decision despite the fact that the right-back barely featured in the first-team in the 2020/21 campaign.

Celtic fans, can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players? First up: who is this?

But since Ralston is Celtic’s only out-and-out option in the whole squad, it is understandable why he’s still at the club. The Bhoys are looking to sign Brandon Soppy and his Rennes teammate Sacha Boey, but there is no guarantee that they’ll sign him. So to keep Ralston as a safety net would make sense or they’d be left with no proper right-back in the squad.

So even though fans may not be happy with him, he may still be a squad option.
